waves at sunset -Telos-Indonesia |
The ocean was not nearly as glassy today as yesterday and the sun beat down on us. I fell asleep on the front of the boat in the narrow strip of shade from the mast, but the motion of the boat made me have some delirious nightmares. By nightfall, the chop had increased as the currents whipped around us. We all slept in the saloon (except for Brent who has no problem sleeping in his bed which is right on the nose of the boat and has the most motion.) In the saloon, the leather couches are very comfortable as one feels the slamming of the swells under us-the least. I was nervous as I anticipated the worst! I imagined huge swells picking up to mountainous waves throwing our nose up to the evening star and then sharply down into the dark trough. Thank Goodness for Sleep:) Louie cooked us up a delicious dinner- bacon stirfry and rice. Poor Caden-he felt wobbly and could not eat a morsel. Vince remembered that I had cooked some sago pudding and squirreled it away in the back of the fridge- so pudding was a fitting way to end another safe and gorgeous day.
Filled with wild abandonment... |
Our lines were out for the whole day but not a sign of life in this part of the ocean. The only indication of life were the mirroid of ships around us-showing up as little triangles on the plotter. The human junk thrown into the sea from these ships slunk around us.
Highlights of yesterday - the beautiful sunset...The sunsets on the ocean are so spectacular. They are filled with wild abandonment! Somehow, at home, sunsets never make as huge an impression. They seem confined as they limit their beauty...or perhaps we see with our eyes but not with our souls at home. We look but we do not feel. Here on the ocean, the sunset spreads its beauty out generously like a proud peacock and pale pinks and pretty blues smudge the evening sky...
