Well a day slipped by me yesterday without me diarising it and today has already been jammed with excitement:)
I woke up to the plotter beeping wildly indicating I think that we were too close to land or arrived at our destination ...could even mean we are heading for a head on collision with another ship!
We were going to try pass between the two islands at the Northern tip of Sumatra, to take a short cut;but the currents were fierce as the tides surged in from the deep blue Indian ocean.
So Brent took the side of caution and we went through the wider pass.
All the fishing lines were out and I just felt the vitality of this water! Next moment, one of the rods went wild and finally that elusive zing of the spinning line brought a rush to our blood and a hard beating of the heart. It was a small Sail fish! What a thrill although both Caden and I could feel Louie's sadness and dissappointment that such a beautiful fish may die.Brent cranked the line and the exhausted Saily succumbed to its exhaustion after being dragged behind Micah. The fight for survival kicked in again and it powered away. The fight between man and fish brought the magnificent creature right up to the sugarscoop.(the steps at the two ends of the catamaran:) ) Brent instructed Travis on how to gaff it and I felt Louies disapproval and detachment from the killing of natures beauty. They finally got it onto the sugarscoop but it lashed around and ...then in the confusion of gaffing and holding the rod, the sailfish flopped back into the ocean and was gone...leaving behind a heavy weight of disbelief and stunned silent disappointment (especially from Caden !).An hour later...Brent is still talking about why they lost it and how and an improved plan of action for the successful capturing of the next sailfish:)
