Brent, Cally and Cody are dying for a SURF:)!
Before we are even anchored, Cody has already got his surfboard out of its cover,he has his rashvest and sunblock on and was nagging to go hunt for surf. Brent and Louie had gone to the island to meet the local chief- and to see if he could get some fruit!

Well, he did not come back with bananas after meeting the villagers, but in Arabic spoken a little by Louie:), they found out where the best surfing spot was:After a slight speed wobble about where the fins were for the boards ( as the surfboards were packed on Micah in mid June for the big sail from Durban to huket),Brent,Louie,Vince,Cal,Cade,Caden and myself were all putt putting in the direction of cranking surf:)))!

More Waves waiting to be Surfed:) |
Poor Travis had to stay behind to babysit Micah:( ( to make sure that no locals try board the boat)This had already happened to us as we sailed around the tip of Sumatra a few days ago. We had anchored in a big bay with a beach full of fully clothed bathers frolicking in the wash.

Vince and Caden and Myself |
Trav,Vince,Cal and Cody had paddled to the shore where they had fun mallyboarding in the shorebreak.Within half an hour one of the local guys had swum all the way to our boat that was anchored quite far out, and he boarded it with a big smile -making himself quite comfortable. We had been told that the locals flock around the boats looking for cigarettes and freebys.I was worried because I thought that as soon as one made the first visitor feel welcome then the whole beach would flock to our boat an make themselves comfortable.I thought Louie was being a bit too polite giving him water to drink but Louie said later that it was the normal tap water and not out the fridge-hey we don't want to spoil them:)
The waves today were - through my eyes- huge and heavy! Fortunately, there was a little channel next to the break and poor Louie had to put up with me and my two cameras clanking around my neck as I tried desperately to capture every perfect wave. In between my incessant snapping ( of the camera), Caden and I kept clinging to each other in fear as huge waves broke in front of us.We were in a channel though and only once did a set come into the channel and left us big-eyed climbing a wall of water :).
I took some super photos of the most perfect waves. Although i spend too much time taking pics and not just looking at the world around me.I realised after we had sailed from Puket to Malaysia and I somehow lost all my 700 photos on my camera as I was going to download them onto my laptop, that one must look and appreciate more as photos can come and go and then the memories are not as firmly lodged in my mind:).
Surfing at Last:) |
All size waves were perfection:) Love this pic! |
Poor Cody! He got held under by 4 huge set waves that thundered over him! He was very tearful and I felt awful for him. I tried to convince him to get back into the duck and rest , but he insisted on floating in the channel. He paddled around looking very small and vulnerable ( and a little edible:() We have not heard much about the shark life around these parts so I was nervous as he dangled in the water looking like live bait!
Poor Cody after he had been held under for 4 huge sets! |
Brent caught plenty of awesome waves today but photo taking was not easy as the duck bobbed up and down uneasily in the little channel.
LAND! ISLAND LIFE! Having Fun:) |
Cally really impressed me today with her courage! She does not show her fear in these huge waves. I watched her swimming in the currents, diving under massive waves and through all of that - keeping up her spirit and whoopwhooping cheerfully:))) Amazing!
